Barbie Extra Dolls Really Are Extra

Earlier this year, as a late birthday present, I received this Barbie Extra Doll #2. She wears an eclectic outfit of pieces that wouldn't look out of place in the 80s and 90s.

The beanie is straight out of the early 90s grunge look, while the shimmery, pastel dress is reminiscent of my 1989 prom dress. The lace collar and baby-blue puffed-sleeve top just scream late 80s/early 90s with their Laura Ashley vibe, while the white fishnets evoke 1984 rock music videos.

All together, the doll wears an outfit that shows she knows what she likes and doesn't care what other people think about her fashion choices.

The Extra Minis were a surprise gift from a friend.

Extra Mini #5 wears a great tie-died shorts outfit in bright summer colors of orange, yellow, and blue. This outfit reminds me of a yellow, tropical short set that my mother made me for the summer of 1985. I wore it with matching yellow lace anklets and yellow and white polka-dotted sneakers. A yellow scarf tied in a bow, in my hair (ala Madonna) and lots of bracelets topped off the look.

Extra Mini #8 is the ultimate Material Girl. Her ruffly dress looks like the one I danced a Tango in, back in the 2000s, when I was taking ballroom dancing lessons. Her total look makes me think of Paris Hilton, back when she was in her reality show "The Simple Life" in the 2000s.

These quirky dolls really made my week, when they showed up unexpectedly. They really are EXTRA.

Wonder Women

I unboxed a Wonder Woman from my collection and decided to photograph all the Wonder Woman dolls in my collection (not counting the little action figures).

Wonder Woman dolls: Mattel - DC Wonder Woman - Diana Prince & Hidden Sword (2017); Mattel - Superman VS Batman: Dawn of Justice - Wonder Woman (2016); Tonner - Diana Prince - Princess of Paradise (redressed, 2014); Mattel - Wonder Woman Collector's Edition (1999); and Mattel - DC Superhero Girls - Wonder Woman (2016).

Diana Prince & Hidden Sword was the doll I unboxed today.

She is from the 2017 Wonder Woman movie.

Here she is with the doll from the 2016 Superman VS Batman: Dawn of Justice movie.

This Wonder Woman by Tonner shows off how she reflects bullets with her gauntlets.

This 1999 Wonder Woman was actually my second Wonder Woman doll, I used to have an 8" Mego Wonder Woman, but sold her with my other Mego Superheroes and villains in the early 2000s.

I look forward to being able to add a Wonder Woman from the Wonder Woman: 1984 movie once it comes out.

All of My Raggedy Anns and Andys

Currently, I have a small collection of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls.

As you can see, they reside together in a wooden doll cradle in my doll room.

My replacement Dress Me Raggedy Ann by Knickerbocker (c. 1970) and a reproduction Molly-E Raggedy Andy from Applause (1993)

Susan Fosnot doll from an event at the 2014 UFDC convention. I recorded the event in this previous post.

Springwater Cookies doll from the late 1990s.

Mini Raggedy Andy by Knickerbocker from my childhood lamp (c. 1970).

25" Applause Raggedy Ann from the 1990s. She had her own post here.

Another photo of my Dress Me Raggedy Ann. You can read more about her in this earlier post and this one.

This concludes my Raggedy Ann series of posts, for now.

Dolls I Have Made

Today I an sharing two dolls I have made.

First up is a yarn majorette from a Milton Bradley kit. I made her when I was 9 years old, back in 1980/1981.  Sadly, over the years she has faded quite a bit from sun exposure.

Around 1985/1986, when I was 14 or 15, I made this little doll in red. She was a craft for the ladies group at church. Everyone was supplied with a painted wooden head, wooden dowel, and wooden base. We got to pick our fabric, yarn, ribbon, and hats from the supply. I chose black yarn for the hair and gave her to braids and bangs.

In 1998, I made this clown doll for a friend of mine. I had no idea what I was doing, but I think she turned out OK. The friend gave the doll back to me when she moved into an assisted living home last year.

Previously I have shown the nun, and kokeshi dolls I have made. Have you ever made dolls?

Time Is On My Mind

Today I am going off topic. I am feeling nostalgic for the watches I used to wear in order to tell time, since nowadays I just check my cell phone.

My first watch was a plain Timex, a lot like the one in the photo below. I go it in second or third grade and it lasted until I got to high school.

In high school I got a Swatch Watch, just like the one below. I loved it. I even got a Swatch Watch guard to wear over it, for protection, the next Christmas.

When my Swatch eventually broke, around 1990, I wore my brothers for a while, but I can't find a photo of his online.

Then in 1993, I was given this awesome Superman watch by Fossil. I wore it for quite a while, replaced the band at least once, but it really needs a new crystal and a tune up.

Then I bought this Superman watch, but the pin that holds the strap snapped.

I then went through a Disney Store cast member watch that I only wore for work,

two identical marcasite watch necklaces (they were very convenient, but broke easily), and a Tweety Bird watch.

Next up was this pretty, green, Avon cuff style watch. It always made me feel pretty when I wore it.

In 2002 I moved to Maryland and bought a new watch to commemorate it, Eeyore!

And then a few years later, I got this dressy watch (it came with a matching bracelet and earrings). Unfortunately, I got what I paid for it, cheap, and it only worked for a short time.

Now, if I want to wear a watch, it is Eeyore.

Do any of my readers still use a watch.

Effanbee Patsy

Happy 4th of July.

I thought a blog post about Patsy would be appropriate for today. Especially since she has this cute little blue and white outfit.

This Effanbee Patsy is a faithful reproduction from 1996. I acquired her this summer at a doll show.

She came with two extra outfits. The first is this adorable blue outfit: socks, bloomers, slip, dress, and bonnet.

The other extra outfit is a cute one piece romper in pink and white.

She also comes with her Effanbee charm!

Last, but not least, she has a cool trunk to hold her and all of her belongings.
