A Little Bit Country

I fly to Nashville, TN this weekend for the UFDC Convention which takes place July 23rd through July 27th. Dolls have been carefully chosen for competition, event table favors were decided on, final banquet table favors were handmade, and all have been packed in my suitcases. 

This year I have decided to take with me two travel dolls. Lia, last year's convention souvenir doll, will be joining Licca, my regular travel doll, through all of my adventures. In honor of this, Lia needed some country and western duds so she wouldn't feel out of place in the home of country music.

As luck would have it, the Spring 2019 issue of Doll News (UFDC's magazine) had a simple pattern for just such an outfit in their Jr. Collector's Corner. I adapted the outfit a bit since the original pattern was meant for an 18" doll - like American Girl dolls, and I added my own flair to the outfit.

Now Lia is ready for her adventures.

June Virtual Doll Convention

Have you ever wanted to attend a doll convention, but time, money, and/or distance has kept you from it? Then the June Virtual Doll Convention might be for you.

Doll lady supreme, Rachel Hoffman, has put together an event like no other that you can participate in from the comfort of your own home, and at $25.00 it is affordable for most. 

The official days of the convention are June 19-23, so there is still time to sign up before it starts.

Kick Butts and Eat Nuts

I just couldn't resist, Squirrel Girl, the Marvel Rising Secret Warriors doll, just had to join my collection. I am a fan of the comic book character and recently have been reading her recent adventures in "The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl". This doll is based on the version in the TV cartoon, Marvel Rising Secret Warriors.

This Target exclusive is wearing her civvies and comes with her uniform and Tippy Toe, her squirrel best friend.

Eeek! Her legs are green. Are you sure she's not frog girl. OK, they are just her uniform tights. Whew.

I was surprised at how short she was compared to Curvy Barbie and DC Super Hero Girls Supergirl. She is just under 10 1/2 inches tall, and curvier than the others, just like in the comics. In the comics she also has large, you might say squirrel like, buck teeth and short red hair.

Here she is redressed in her costume. I had to plug her tail into her back. Her tail is supposed to be part of her and in her everyday identity as Doreen, she stuffs her tail into her pants, giving her the appearance of having a very large bottom. This tail will not fit in her regular outfit. Too bad.

It looks like Doreen, I mean Squirrel Girl, and Tippy Toe are ready to "Kick butts and eat nuts!"

Flower Power

Yesterday was my doll club's (Dollology) annual May Day luncheon. This year, the theme was Flower Power. Many of the attendees dressed up as flower children and hippies from the late 60s and early 70s. It was quite a site to see.

Even some travel dolls were dressed for the occasion.

While Licca doesn't have any hippie clothes, she chose a flower covered mini yukata dress. Julie, in front of her, is properly attired too.

Other travel dolls at my table were Maru (also looking period appropriate),

And this sweet Italian fashion doll in a stylish flower power mini.

There we photo stations with props for photos too.

And a display of Tonner dolls, in honor of Robert Tonner giving the program and making the souvenir dolls.

After lunch, Robert Tonner delivered a presentation of influential doll sculptors, Helper's were drawn, and the souvenir dolls were distributed.

A Nancy Ann doll named Flower Power.

She is a dark skinned Nancy Ann in flower embroidered bell bottoms and a psychedelic crocheted top. Her hair is long, wavy, and a bit unruly.

Here she is wearing her beaded necklace, leather sandals, and flower headband. She is totally groovy, if you can dig it.

Look at that adorable face. This may be one of the last Tonner Nancy Anns produced.

On a side note, I was the lucky winner of Celeste by Stephanie Blythe from the Helper Drawings.

The Flower Power luncheon was hip and happening and I look forward to next years event.

Comfy Princesses

I just saw the Wreck it Ralph Disney Comfy Princesses dolls at Walmart. They are pretty cute.
