June Virtual Doll Convention

Have you ever wanted to attend a doll convention, but time, money, and/or distance has kept you from it? Then the June Virtual Doll Convention might be for you.

Doll lady supreme, Rachel Hoffman, has put together an event like no other that you can participate in from the comfort of your own home, and at $25.00 it is affordable for most. 

The official days of the convention are June 19-23, so there is still time to sign up before it starts.

Maryland, A Merry Land : UFDC Region 11 Conference - Day 2, Afternoon

Friday afternoon started with me attending the ticketed luncheon: Hi Hon! Welcome to Our Dance Party Bawlmer Style!

The tables were covered with gifts from the hosting club and everyone at the table.

The centerpiece was a replica record player with the companion doll by Helen Kish on it.

My travel doll, Licca, found a seat on the vintage Thunderbird on the table.

I even tried on a pair of red cat eye sunglasses.

The start of our entertainment was some of the members of the Lady Baltimore Doll Club dancing the Madison.

Lunch was served, and a program on big hair, on humans and dolls, was given.

After much laughter, it was time to open up our souvenir doll, Zoe, by Helen Kish.

Then it was time for the Regional Meeting and Open Forum. Zoe came with me to the meeting.

I then attended the programs: In Service: Dolls of the Sanitary Fairs 1863-1865 by Elizabeth Ann Coleman, and A China Doll Puzzle (Who's Your Daddy?) by Kathy Turner.

Then up to my room to dump my table favor loot.

After dinner, I spent the rest of the evening as a monitor in the competition room, and then headed back to the room for some much deserved rest.

A Look Back at UFDC Convention Dolls

As I was cleaning the doll room, decided it was time to look back on UFDC convention souvenir dolls.

In this top photo are 2016, 2017, and 2012. They are all similar in size and are little girls.

2016 is Emily by Heather Maciak, 2017 is Ma Petite by Helen Kish, and 2012 is Just Me by Alice Leverett and Vogue Doll Company.

2013 is Tiny Kitty "A Capital Affair" by Robert Tonner.

She was dressed as Mrs Taft.

2015 is Stella by Susan Fosnot.

2014 is Ana by Dianna Effner.

Out of 6 dolls, 1 is cloth (Stella), 1 is porcelain (Just Me), and 4 are vinyl/plastic. Only Stella and Tiny Kitty are adults, the rest are children.

Feeling Shy

I decided to participate in Inktober this year. The idea is to do a drawing in ink every day of the month. For Shy, I decided to set up a doll scene and then sketch it.

I went with Ma Petite (by Helen Kish) hiding behind Gothic Romance (by Robert Tonner).

I love that they look like they could be parent and child.

I think the quick sketch turned out pretty well.

Final 2017 Convention Post, I Promise

So, I won 2 second place ribbons at the convention. 

The first one was in the Kokeshi category.

The second one was in the Takara Jenny and Friends category. I entered my Ellie. She can be seen in this previous post.

So, as you can tell, I had a great time at convention.

UFDC 68th Annual Convention, 2017 - Orlando, FL: Part 5

Saturday morning came quickly. I got up early and joined the other volunteers to assist with the Helper drawings. I love doing this. It is exciting to hear and see people when pretty dolls. Unfortunately, my lucky streak ended, and I didn't win any drawings. Oh well, this way I didn't have to ship anything home.

Next up was the Mary Hoyer Luncheon: An Evening at the Paris Opera.

The centerpiece was Madame Butterfly.

Licca got her photo taken with the opera star.

Another lady at our table brought her travel doll, too.

Mary Lynne Saunders, Mary Hoyer's grand daughter, was the luncheon speaker. She told us the story of the company.

After the luncheon, I took a last walk though the sales room and purchased an adorable Kewpie repro from Lee Feickert.

Then it was time for a nap. And then, the big banquet.

Licca wasn't the only travel doll at our table.

 

The entertainment was a lot of fun - singing and dancing and Disney characters. And then it was time to get our convention souvenir dolls - Ma Petite by Helen Kish.

After a long week of fun and people and dolls, Licca and I went back to our room, packed our over-flowing bags, and slept. Convention was officially over.
