Disney Sea: American Waterfront

If you follow the Mediterranean Harbor to the left, you will come to the next land, The American Waterfront. It is comprised of sections: New York, and Cape Cod.

With the ladies, on my first visit, I saw the musical review, Big Band Beat. It was an uptempo song and dance show of Jazz, Blues, Ragtime, and Big Band music. Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, and Marie even had numbers.

The Toy Story area is really lit up at night. Wow!

Cheshire Cat Cupcake is Kawaii

I wanted to share with you a cute piece of awesomeness I recently got out of a capsule machine: A Cheshire Cat cupcake.

Now you may be asking, what is there that I can do with a Cheshire Cat cupcake. The answer is, I don't know. But it doesn't diminish the kawaiiness of said cupcake.

Disney Sea: Mediterranean Harbor

The first "Land" you come to in Disney Sea is the Mediterranean Harbor.

This area is mostly gift shops and restaurants designed to look like an Italian town. Part of the area is Venice, including Gondola rides.

The view is amazing. Across the harbor you can see the Fortress and Galleon. Mt. Prometheus is in the background.

The attractions in the Mediterranean Harbor are: The Transit Steamer Line (a boat ride that takes you around the park), Venetian Gondolas, Fortress Explorations, and the Leonardo Challenge.

Dave and I explored the Fortress Explorations area as soon as we got to the park. There was barely any one there, so it was all ours. We didn't do the Leonardo Challenge, since in didn't start until 11AM.

We didn't take a Gondola ride, this visit, but it is definitely on our list for our next visit.

Disney Sea: Arriving and Disney Sea Plaza

Woo Hoo! We have arrived at Disney Sea, remember where we parked. The lot was pretty empty, but it was a weeknight.

Tokyo Disney is celebrating it's 30th birthday this year. It is the Happiness year.

It was also the last week of Mickey and Duffy's Spring Voyage.

On July 4th, we got to spend the whole day there. Here we are passing the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel.

Disney Sea: The Food

Recently I had the chance to go to Disney Sea twice, once just for the evening, and the other for a whole day.

The next few blogs will all be focused on my experiences there.

First, The Food:

The restaurant that I visited for dinner on my evening trip was the New York Deli in the American Waterfront.

At the New York Deli, you order and pay at the counter and seat yourself.

Their menu featured sandwiches, mostly. For my meal, I chose the seasonal special, a sandwich with meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and a mixed berry sauce. It came with fries and a soft drink.

It was a pretty good sandwich and all I needed before touring the park at break-neck speed.

On my next trip, we ate like royalty.

For lunch, we ate at Magellan's in the Mediterranean Harbor.

Dave and I both ordered sets containing an appetizer, main dish, and desert. Dave had a mixed appetizer plate, the beef, and pink grapefruit sherbet.

I had a salad, the fish, and the desert of the day, a small slice of cake with sherbet. Everything was amazing. The flavor was heavenly and the presentation lovely. I want to eat there again and again.

For dinner, we dined at The Teddy Roosevelt Longe aboard the S. S. Columbia in the American Waterfront.

The lounge is richly paneled and decorated with paintings and photos of Teddy Roosevelt. The bar is decorated with wooden bears instead of pillars.

Being worn out, the dark and quiet ambiance was just what we needed. We ordered drinks which were refreshing and impeccably served.

I had a the fried shrimp sandwich - two jumbo fried shrimp with lettuce, tomato, and sauce on a foccacia bun. It was served with a few fries. Dave had the mixed platter - 3 sausages, mini beef pot-pie, and a chicken thigh. He said the thigh was bland, but every thing else was pretty good.

                                     

I would definitely eat here again, if I was looking for a quiet place during the afternoon. The food was good, but not 4 star quality like the Magellan's. For that, I look forward to trying the S. S. Columbia Dining Room on my next trip to the park.

A Tale as Old as Time

A local vendor was selling doll clothes this week. After looking, I ended up buying two outfits.

Hayden volunteered to model the first outfit.

Meant to look like the ballgown in Beauty and the Beast, the outfit appears to be too large for most 11 1/2 - 12 inch fashion dolls. The Monster High dolls could walk through the neck line and the Barbie dolls that were modeling the dresses at the vendor's stand looked lost in the dresses. It does fit the Liv doll (Hayden) extremely well, though.

It's Always Better Down Where it is Wetter, Under the Sea

This week's Random Doll in Storage is Ariel, the Little Mermaid.

I bought her sometime between 1990 and 1993. 

At the time, I thought she was one of the prettiest non-Barbie fashion dolls out there. Today? She is still pretty darn cute. With her big eyes and red hair, she is just about a perfect adaptation of the Disney character.

She is the only Disney fashion doll I have ever bought. Why? The movie had just came out in 1989 and I loved it. (Even if I was upset that the script did not stick to the original story.) I was an adult and could buy my own toys. And, big and, she is a mermaid. As a child I longed to be a mermaid. This doll was meant for me.

None of the other Disney dolls appealed to me like she did, until now. Now I find my self eyeing Brave dolls.  Coincidence that she also has red hair? Probably not.
