Uta Brauser's Belinda

A doll friend gifted me this beautiful doll when she was making space in her home.

She is Belinda by Uta Brauser and marketed through Elite Dolls. (I am unsure of what year she is from, but most likely the 1990s.)

She is an impressive 20 inches tall.

Her delicate features are set off by an exquisitely beaded gown and abundance of rich, brown curls.

She would make an excellent Sofia from the book Cinderella is Dead by Kalynn Bayron.

Once Upon A Time

I love getting presents. It makes me happy to know that someone thought of me. I especially like when the present is a doll. A lot of people say that they don't know what type of doll I would like, and so don't get me dolls. My answer to that is I love dolls, and by giving me a doll, any doll, it means that the person tried to get me something I would love. 

A friend gave me these two beautiful dolls as a gift. I wouldn't have bought them for myself, and thus they are extra special. 

They are 17" porcelain Gold Key dolls.

First up is Snow White. Her outfit is lovely and detailed. She even has a magic mirror in her hand.

Snow is one of my favorite fairy tale women. When she finds out she is in danger, she tries to leave the situation, and gets a job. She even has compassion for a beggar and buys an apple. (Sure, the apple is poisoned...)

The second doll is Cinderella. 

This doll has blue slippers to match her dress, not glass (and not fur).

Her elaborate hair-do would be hard to maintain in real life. (She must use a lot of Aqua Net.)

I don't have a lot of Fairy Tale dolls in my collection, including these, I now have four. This thoughtful gift was much appreciated.

It's Always Better Down Where it is Wetter, Under the Sea

This week's Random Doll in Storage is Ariel, the Little Mermaid.

I bought her sometime between 1990 and 1993. 

At the time, I thought she was one of the prettiest non-Barbie fashion dolls out there. Today? She is still pretty darn cute. With her big eyes and red hair, she is just about a perfect adaptation of the Disney character.

She is the only Disney fashion doll I have ever bought. Why? The movie had just came out in 1989 and I loved it. (Even if I was upset that the script did not stick to the original story.) I was an adult and could buy my own toys. And, big and, she is a mermaid. As a child I longed to be a mermaid. This doll was meant for me.

None of the other Disney dolls appealed to me like she did, until now. Now I find my self eyeing Brave dolls.  Coincidence that she also has red hair? Probably not.
