Sulwar Kameez for 18" Dolls

Well, I finally got a new sewing machine. It is like magic! I used the sewing machine to finish making this cute outfit that fits American Girl dolls for a friend.

I really like how it turned out.
It is a Sulwar Kameez/Tunic and Pants - a style that is popular in India and Pakistan.

The pattern is by Genniewren Designs and can be purchased through Pixiefaire at this link.

Witches, Pumpkins, and Cats! Oh My!

We started decorating for Halloween this week. Here is one of the displays.

This table houses the Annalee dolls this year.

Blending in on the table is this cool car doll, not an Annalee.

Pumpkins and potion bottles round out the look.

DC Superhero Girls Harley Quinn

My birthday is the last week of August.

So say hello to my doll birthday present this year: DC Superhero Girls Harley Quinn!

When the DC Superhero Girls dolls first came out, I decided to not purchase her, since I tend to like heroes more than villains, but eventually I decided I needed her to hangout with the rest of the crew.

Like a few of the other DC Superhero Girls dolls, she did not come with a student ID card. I wonder how they decided some characters got them and others did not.

Harleen Quinzell (Harley's real name) comes with a comically large mallet to create havoc with.

Too large for her to stand without support while holding, it turns out. Oh well, that is what salt and pepper shakers are for. Right?

This version of Harley looks way too sure of herself to ever fall for Mr. J (The Joker). Especially since Ivy (Poison Ivy) is already around.

With Harley's addition to my collection, I am only missing 2 characters from this line - Blackstar, who came in a Target exclusive 2-pack with Starfire; and Cheetah, who was in a San Diego Comic Con 2-pack with Wonder Woman and then later was released by herself.

August Sewing Projects

This month I have been sewing.

I made a couple more facemasks in a totally fabulous rainbow unicorn fabric.

I also made an adorable dress for Merry (Dianna Effner Little Darling) using the Alice Leverett patterns from the UFDC On-line On-time Celebration.

What have you been up to?

Licca picnic with a Side of Little Twin Stars

Licca and her little sisters are enjoying a summer picnic.

On the menu - cake and tea.

While they enjoy the cake, Licca will read to them from The Constellations Book - starring The Little Twin Stars.

Licca is also wearing a Little Twin Stars outfit (Barbie), what a coincidence.
One of Licca's sisters is hugging a Little Twin Stars pillow in anticipation.
What a nice day they have planned.

Old-Fashioned Girls

This week I was inspired to set up a display of dolls dressed as old-fashioned girls. They are dressed in the fashions of the late 19th century and early 20th century.

The beautiful Simon and Halbig doll I posted about previously was the inspiration.

While she is dressed in the fashion of the time she was created, the dolls in my display are all modern dolls designed to recreate the look and feel of those bygone eras.

This first doll, dressed in red and lace, is Adelaide's Friends by Goldie Wilson from 2016. Like the Simon and Halbig doll, she is in a drop waist dress and hat.

This little doll in blue is Caroline by Rosemarie Snyder. She was the souvenir from Miss Carroll's Doll Study Club luncheon, "Stitches in Time" in 2014. She was made to resemble a lady doll of the 19th century. Underneath her blue dress, she has white undergarments and a blue corset.

This little cloth girl and her porcelain doll, both by Goldie Wilson from 2016, are dressed in white short dresses and matching long pantaloons and black shoes.

This little Alice in Wonderland is a beautiful reproduction by UFDC member and doll artist (deceased) Phyllis Juhlin Park, 1981. I have been told she might have been a regional conference souvenir.

While the other dolls were handmade artist dolls, this sweet 14", vinyl doll was mass produced. She is Four Seasons: Summer by Effanbee, from 1981. Her dress, like the Goldie Wilson doll in white, has the dress brought in at the natural waistline and a high hemline. The Alice doll also wears her dress like this.

Clothing fashion comes and goes, and it is interesting to see it reflected in one's dolls.

Mera, Queen of Atlantis

Today I decided to open Barbie DC Justice League Mera, 2017.

With her great colors, she looks amazing out in the sunlight.

Unfortunately, her arms are not jointed at the elbows. If they were, she could have been posed a bit more dynamically.

Her armor is sewn to her body suit, and that is OK with me. I do not plan on redressing her.

While I was out, I took a couple of photos of another red-haired hero.

Squirrel Girl!

She looks happy to be playing outside with Tippy Toe.
