Another One I Let Go

 Another doll and outfit set I got rid of was a doll I got in the mid to late 1980s. She had a more athletic body than Barbie, and came wearing an aerobics leotard, leg warmers, wrist bands, and a head band and sneakers. She also came with a yellow 2-piece, terry cloth sweat suit, a towel, a gym bag, and a walk man. She may have come with hand weights. She had big, poofy, blonde, 80s hair.

I also sold her in the early 2000s.

Oh, Why Did I Sell Them?

 1979 was a good doll year for me. For my eighth birthday I received the most beautiful Barbie family doll ever, Superstar Christie. 

I also received a "clone" doll with a great red, white, and blue wardrobe. I wish I could find photos of the set. The doll was a basic Barbie clone with blonde hair, but the clothes were great: white slacks, blue denim sailor themed slacks, a red and white striped hooded sweatshirt with pockets, a red knit sweater jacket with belt, an off the shoulder red evening gown with white ruffles, a white purse that could actually hold things, and high heel shoes and white boots. The doll, itself, came wearing a blue bathing suit. There was also a red shawl/wrap to match the red evening gown.

This clothing set, pretty much doubled the clothing I had available for my female 11 1/2" fashion dolls, which now numbered at 4.

15 or so years ago, I sold the doll and outfits at a yard sale. Now I wish that I had hung onto them. Oh well.

Lady Baltimore's 2021 Halloween Luncheon

 Yesterday, Saturday, was the Lady Baltimore Doll Study Club's Halloween luncheon. Just what I needed to get me into the Halloween spirit.

The club members decorated multiple display tables with horror and Halloween themed dolls that they own.

There was also a competition table. The category was - Dolls dressed as witches - costumes made by owners. 

As you can see, I participated this year. My Friend Jenny feels a bit out of place with all of these glamorous modern dolls in their pretty witch outfits.

So many people participated in the competition this year. All the outfits were very well done.

After looking at the competition dolls,  I had to go back and look at more display dolls.

The tables were festively decorated with painted pumpkins and Halloween themed items.

Some attendees even brought their travel dolls with them.

During lunch, a guest speaker spoke about the history of witches and dolls. It was really interesting and entertaining.

Then it was time to see what the judges thought of the competition dolls. 

Ta da!!!! I got a 2nd place ribbon! Hooray!

Running short on time, next up was Helper Drawings and passing out the souvenir doll.

And VIB - Libearace. LOL. He is too fabulous.

It was a great event!

Vintage Collegeville Witch Costume

It feels like forever since I posted here, instead of just over a Month.

But I have a good excuse, really. I was working on creating a Halloween costume based on the one in the picture below. 

I was probably 5 years old in this photo. The costume was by Collageville. Remember them? The costume consisted of: a thin, plastic material, black skirt; a cape of the same material with witch designs printed on it; and a plastic witch mask.

Collegeville costumes were notorious for the plastic material of the costumes ripping really easily, so you could only get 1 or 2 wears out of them.

With the costume, since it is cold in October in Northern Illinois, I had on a red turtleneck, thick white tights, and black rubber rain boots. I also carried my little broom, that I already had.

To make the skirt and cape, I used black trash bags. Turns out, that trash bags are not the easiest to sew or paint, but with lots of hard work, I figured out the best methods and got it done. Not bad, huh? The mask is just painted cardboard. The shirt is red flannel. All the patterns are modified from Fisher Price My Friend Mandy sewing patterns.

And who is behind the mask? My Friend Jenny. I found this Jenny at a thrift store about two years ago, and was waiting on an awesome outfit to dress her in. Now she has one.

Jenny is already to go Trick or Treating tonight. 

1977 Superstar Christie

 The other doll I received for my birthday is 1977 Superstar Christie!

She is a reproduction of the Superstar Christie from 1977. (I got my Superstar Christie for my birthday in 1979.)

Look at that face and smile! No wonder child me thought she was the most beautiful doll I had ever seen.

The new doll - on the right - comes with a plastic stand. The original doll came with a yellow, star-shaped stand that I no longer own.

The new doll's dress is a little brighter, than the old dress, but that could be to it fading over the years. The new doll is a great reproduction.

The only difference, I think, is that the new head is a bit larger than the old head, and the smile is not as toothy. I am so excited to finally have her.

Ken Fashionista Slim - #154

I received two dolls for my recent 50th birthday. The first doll is Ken Fashionista - #154.

He is so cute and has a K-Pop vibe to his outfit. Such a young, fresh, look for a Ken doll.

I thought he'd look perfect with Destination Jungle Friends Skipper, because of the purple streak in her hair. And I was right. They look great together!
