Gene in El Morocco

This outfit of Gene's is El Morocco.

On line and in the box, I thought it was a little black dress, but in reality it is a fabulous deep purple.
(And I love purple.)

She is still wearing those awful mules. I still need to go shoe shopping for her.

Takasaki Kannon

Our most recent foray was to see the Takasaki Kannon in Gunma. The Kannon (goddess of mercy) is 41.8 Meters (9 stories) tall.

Like the Statue of Liberty, visitors may go inside and climb the stairs of the Kannon (all 9 stories). There are also statues of Buddha inside.

In the park there is also a cave filled with art work, but due to time limitations we did not get to see it.
Food, restrooms, and souvenir shops are available.

Loving Couples

It is Valentine's Day. How appropriate that the two purchases I made at the "Antique" sale were two loving couples.

The first is an elderly couple.

Aren't they lovely?

The next is a tiny set of non-traditional Kokeshi.

I think they are pretty cool.

(So, how do you think I did for about $6.00?)

Something Fishy

The cute but weird toy I got out of a capsule machine last week:

Yes, that is a young lady hiding under tuna as if she was the rice.

Here is a photo of the other items available in this line. The girl in the roe is really cute.

Skippers on Parade

With the 50th Anniversary Skipper joining my collection, I now own 4 Skippers.

From left to right: Destination Safari (or Jungle Friends) Skipper, 50th Anniversary Skipper, and Super Teen Skipper. You can see that while 50th and Super Teen are about the same size, Destination is much taller.

My 4th Skipper is Cool Crimp Skipper. I apologize for the poor photo, but she is currently in storage.

So now I have Skippers from 1978, 1993, 2013 (?), and 2014, although the 2014 doll is a reproduction of a 1964 doll.

She sure has changed over the years.

Skipper 50th Anniversary Doll

This year I joined the Barbie Fan Club through Barbie Collector. As a member I get $20 quarterly to use towards the purchase of the site's dolls. The first doll I ordered with my discount is the Brunette Skipper 50th Anniversary doll.

She comes in a lovely pink box.

She comes with a stand, a retro Skipper pamphlet, and birthday party accessories.

I have never seen so many little connectors on a doll box.

She is adorable.

I had difficulty getting her hair band to sit how I wanted it to, so her hair got slightly messy.

I am very happy that I have added this Skipper to my collection.
