As June comes to a slow, hot end, it would be remiss of me if I did not mention the protests and long awaited changes that are happening in response to the murder of another black man by the police.
Black Lives Matter.
For far too long, black lives have been told that they don't matter. They have been treated as if they don't matter. They have been casually imprisoned, enslaved, and killed as if they don't matter.
So, today, from my safe spot of white privilege, I choose to say, again, that Black Lives Matter. You matter.
I couldn't ignore your pain and anger. For I was, I am, angry too.
So I put together a slightly different 4th of July display today.
Still raising the flag.
And still full of red, white, and blue. For they, "too, sing America".
