Skipper in the Snow

I finally took some time to take a few doll photos in the snow from our blizzard. We had 30+ inches, so I wasn't short on snow piles to play with.

Skipper decided to sled down this hill, but the sun was too bright for really good photos.

So she dragged her sled to another nearby hill. Much better.

Then it was time to find a nice, flat area to play in the snow.

I hope to get some more photos tomorrow when I am not shoveling the driveway.

Korean Fan Dancers

Now for a blast to the past.

I purchased this lovely Korean Fan Dance doll display at an estates sale probably about 15 years ago.
I didn't know anything about them, other than I thought they were pretty and unique.

There are 5 ladies on the base.

This was probably a souvenir doll from a trip to Korea.
They are pretty large. They cover most of the Monopoly game box.

The dolls themselves look very similar to Bradley Pose dolls from the 60s and 70s.

16 Candles

Monday was the Chesapeake Doll Club's 16 Candles Luncheon.

It was a fun and low key event. A Memorial was held for founding member Faye who died earlier this month and a program on teen dolls was given by Barbara Stone.

The competition theme was dolls dressed for a prom or ball, and the club had a great set up of dolls partying at prom.

Some of the wonderful competition dolls.

Hey, my Hopelessly Fabulous 50s Sienna Evans won a 3rd place ribbon!

Some of these dolls were amazing.

Many attendees went home with helper drawing items and new dolls from the vendor tables that were set up. Most of all, a great time was had by all. Thank you, Chesapeake Doll Club for a wonderful event.

Sledding Fun Skipper

In the Fall while Target briefly had their exclusive Christmas and holiday dolls, I bought Sledding Fun Skipper.

The photos are a little blurry since the kitten kept jumping onto the table and shaking it.

The main reason I bought her was that she has bending legs. Hooray! A modern Skipper that can sit in a chair.

Skipper comes with a sled, small snowman, and a helmet.

Here is a line-up of my Skippers, for comparison.

50th Anniversary Skipper and Superteen Skipper.

Homecoming Queen Skipper.

Cool Crimp Skipper and Destination Skipper/Jungle Friends Skipper.

And lastly, Sledding Fun Skipper.

Yasmina Clairvoya

Today's doll is another one I was saving for a rainy day.

Yasmina Clairvoya!

Her plastic shell came right off, I wish I could say the same about all the strings and things holding her in. After a bit, she was free from all of her bindings.

I bought her on clearance, since I liked her purple hair, about 2 years ago. She is finally free to strut her stuff.

She is lovely. Look at those braided top knots!.

But, eeeewwwww! She has some serious bed head going on in the back. I guess she is lucky that she is going to be on display. I'm sure she hopes that none of the other dolls will be behind her, staring at her unruly locks.

Prom Dress

Homecoming Queen Skipper, who I blogged about earlier this week, was released in 1988. While blogging about her, I started thinking about my high school prom in 1989, the year after she was released. Hair was still big, and dresses were still poofy. My dress even had something in common with Skipper's dress, it was metallic.

I'm on the right. As you can see, pink was THE COLOR. LOL While Skipper's dress has metallic thread running through it, mine is all metallic with lace over parts. Does Skipper's dress remind you of any dresses in your past?

Homecoming Queen Skipper

I finally got around to deboxing my Homecoming Queen Skipper.

She was easy to take off of her cardboard backer, with only two twist ties and her hair being held with a long plastic piece and thread. Due to the age of the doll, the tape on the hair plastic piece was very sticky and I had to carefully cut the threads, rather than just pull the two pieces apart.

In her box she had directions for her dress, a scrapbook/catalog of current Skippers and outfits, and cardboard cutouts.

Her waist is very wobbly, and her legs are covered in green spots. Seeing her legs was a very sad moment. but Que Sera Sera.

In the box, it looked like she had powder all over her face, luckily it turned out to be dust and it came right off.

The strings on her skirt work, and allow her to have a poofy dress that shows off her green spotted legs.

Here she is with Crimp and Curl Skipper.

Together they show the casual and formal sides of Skipper.
