My Life As ... A Mini Doll

I got a surprise at Walmart the other day. They had My Life As ... mini dolls.

They are 7 1/2 inch miniatures of the 18 inch dolls. And they are so cute.

I brought My Life as a School Girl home with me.

She is made of a smooth vinyl that is very nice to touch.

She is about the same height as Ginny and Madame Alexander's Wendy.

Though Ginny and Wendy are a little chubbier since they are toddler bodies, versus School Girl's thinner child body.

Here she is undressed. She is really easy to pose and move around.

She is a little taller and thicker than the Madame Alexander Travel Friends dolls. (I got a picture laying down, since my Travel Friends doll has a broken leg.)

While School Girl can wear Ginny's dress, Ginny is too chubby to wear School Girl's outfit. The skirt does not close in the back.

I think the My Life As ... A Mini Doll is a very nice play doll. What do you think?

DC Superhero Girls Katana

As some of you may know, I am a fan of DC Super Heroes. So when I learned that there was going to be an exclusive Katana available at San Diego Comic Con I was glad, since the DC Superhero Girls line hadn't released one yet, but also sad, since I was sure I wouldn't be able to get one for a decent price.

Fortunately, some one I knew was going to SDCC and told me that they would get one for me. Hooray!

Her outer box is beautiful.

And her display box is lovely too.

The front screen slides out to reveal Katana in her practice dojo.

Here is the inside of the display pulled out of the box.

As you can see, she comes with lots of weapons.

She comes with a stand, too, unlike the other Superhero Girls.

And a pair of extra hands.

Katana, already a martial artist, trained as a samurai after her husband and children were killed. Using the mystical sword of the man who murdered them, she fights criminals in her search for justice and revenge.

For a time she fought alongside Batman and the super hero team the Outsiders.

She appears in the current movie, The Suicide Squad.

And of course, is a character in DC Superhero Girls.

Licca Gets around

Licca gets around.

Above: She visited the Alamo in San Antonio, TX in 2014, Bali in 2013, Tokyo 2012-2015, Washington DC in 2013, The Truman Museum and library outside of Kansas City, MO in 2015, and Washington, D.C. again in 2016.

In 2014 she also visited my parents in VA and celebrated Miss Daisy's birthday.

That same summer she visited Long Island, New York, bearing gifts for all the relatives.

Then, in 2015, she finally moved to Maryland, her new home.

And she got to visit with Mickey in Orlando, FL.

She looks forward to many more travels.

Dolley Madison - Our Nation's Kindred Spirit

Now for some lovely photos of the souvenir doll from the luncheon: Dolley Madison - Our Nation's Kindred Spirit.

She came with an American flag, portrait of George Washington, looking glass, and map.

She also holds her Tunisian sabre in order to defend the White House, if needed.

Her official name is I Dream of Dolley. My doll is 1/75.

She is my first Cissette, and I think she is just lovely.

My Friend Mandy as Amy Carter

When I saw the competition category, Children in the White House, I knew immediately who I wanted to portray, Amy Carter, and what doll to use, My Friend Mandy. I was 5 years old when her father, Jimmy Carter, was elected President of the U.S., and I was in awe of this other little girl that got to live in the White House.

Inspired by this photo of her, I decided to dress My Fiend Mandy in a Prairie dress and Pinafore.

I used My Friend Mandy patterns to make the outfit. I don't normally sew for dolls, and after this project I don't ever want to sew ruffles again. LOL

Did I use velcro closures on her outfit? Of course, all of My Friend Mandy's outfits used velcro.

On her feet she wore the clogs that came with her overalls outfit.

She may not have won a ribbon, but for me, she was an amazing portrayal of Amy Carter, and an important lesson in sewing.

UFDC Convention 2016 - Washington, D.C.: Part 5

Saturday morning came very quickly. I was up early, early, early so I could help out with the Helper buckets at 6:30AM. That is right, 6:30. We got all the Helper buckets to the ballroom and then removed all the labels and lids and put them into the buckets so that the drawings would go quickly.

At 8:30AM I took my leave from the drawings to attend a 9AM workshop: Sister Mary Laetitia - Your Nun's Story which was taught by Fr Francois Sainte-Marie.

We started with a doll made by the sponsoring club, and a bag of partially fitted outfit pieces.

The Father than had a veil and naming ceremony for each doll as he pinned the veil on.

I then quickly made my way over to my luncheon, Dolley Madison - Our Nation's Kindred Spirit. In fact I made my way over so quickly that I forgot to go up to my room and get my table gifts. Oh, well. There were plenty of goodies on the table, already.

After a tasty lunch, a historian and Dolley impersonator gave a speech on Dolley Madison and the invasion of D.C. It was very informative and well done.

The souvenir doll is a Cissette as Dolley Madison, she is fabulous.

After lunch I went to the Helper room to see if I won anything. I did! I won 2 dolls.
Doll #1 is a large Mariquita Perez.

Doll #2 is this lovely Cissy! I came to the convention wanting a Cissy, and I went home with one. I was so happy, and surprised that I actually got her.

I did a last little walk around the Dealer's room in the last 15 minutes they were open, and managed to buy one last doll. A cute little Island cutie by Judy Porter.

Totally exhausted I went back to the room and took a nap. I think I fell asleep the moment my head hit the pillow. When I woke up an hour later I felt like a brand new person.

Eventually it was time to get dressed up and take up my position of table host in the ballroom. The table centerpieces were a simple vase and fake flowers.

This time I did remember to bring my table favors.

The ladies at my table were a lot of fun. We even got shushed by someone at a nearby table once. Oh, well.

The souvenir doll was passed out at the end of the banquet.

She is a lovely Heather Maciak vinyl doll with soft features and bright red hair, named Anne.

She even has own little doll.

Some of the other dolls I got from the dealer's room earlier this week are Jill,

Ginny as Tinkerbell, and Ginny as the Sorcerers Apprentice. All three were from the Vogue booth. I tend to always visit their booth first thing and find some lovely items.

After the banquet I packed up all my clothing, and items, and dolls, dolls, dolls, and went to bed.

It was a great convention and I look forward to the next one, but now I need to sleep for a week or two to recover.
