Let's Hear it for the Boys

Mattel just announced new Fashionista Kens with new body types, hairdos, faces, and skin tones. I don't have any of them yet, but I do have a few Ken dolls in my collection.

The first Ken doll I ever had was The Sun Set Malibu Ken, he was a birthday present in 1975. Unfortunately he broke his neck and left my collection. The next Ken I got, many years later, is Flight Time Ken from 1990. 

In this photo he is wearing a Fashion Avenue Tuxedo from 1996. He was a Christmas present when I was 19, and since I didn't have another Ken, I was happy to get him. I really disliked the pilot suit, so it went away and the lovely tux took it's place.

For my wedding in 2003, I decided I needed Ken dolls to escort my Bride and Bridesmaid cakes. So I found Magic Jewel Ken (2002), Wedding Day Ken (1990), and the Fashion Avenue Tux on Ebay. Wedding Day Ken stayed in my collection, since his skin and hair coloring are slightly different than Flight Time Ken. Magic Jewel Ken left not long after the wedding, since I didn't like his overall look.

In 2011, Skipper's Boyfriend, Scott (1979), joined my collection, at long last. I had wanted him since 4th grade. He is shorter than the Kens, but I consider him one of them.

In 2015, a friend sold me her X-Files Gift Set (1997) of Mulder and Scully. Fox Mulder has a unique sculpt to resemble David Duchovny.

This Christmas (2016) Kirk and Spock were under the tree.

And in the Spring I found this handsome guy, probably Sun Sensation Ken (1991) at a thrift store. I took him home when I noticed he had green eyes. 

You can tell that these three guys are brothers. I really need to get the new guy some new clothes.

 And with their shorter look-a-like, Scott.

Wonder Woman in Many Forms

I saw the Wonder Woman movie on Friday. Wow! I loved it. In honor of the movie, I present to you my Wonder Woman dolls and toys.

Disney Kurhn

When I heard that the 2017 UFDC convention was going to be in Orlando, I knew that I wanted my travel Licca to have Disney themed outfits. After much web searching, I decided that this Kurhn set would be perfect.

The set comes with one Kurhn doll, 3 extra outfits, a suitcase, picnic food and dishes, a picnic cloth, and stickers.

The box wasn't packaged that well and was crushed in the shipping, but the items inside were all fine. 

While Kurhn is taller than Licca, I think most of the outfits will work on Licca.

Here they are together, Kurjn and my travel Licca.

The first dress is really cute and casual on her.

Note - all the Kurhn clothing is meant to be put on feet first.

The second outfit is two pieces - a top and a skirt.

Tucked in.

This sundress is way too long for Licca.

This is also a two piece outfit, and so adorable that it could have been meant for Licca.

Licca has her outfits for the convention, now I have to make decisions on what I'm going to wear.

Effanbee Fluffy

Some times seeing an object will bring back childhood memories. That happened to me with this Effanbee Fluffy doll wearing a Brownie uniform.

While living in Wayne, PA, we would shop for children's clothes at the Wanamaker's department store. While my mom and brother were looking for clothing for my rapidly growing younger brother, I got to wait around, bored, surrounded by boy's clothes.

Luckily, the Scouting section was next to the boy's clothes, and I could look at the cute Effanbee dolls in scouting uniforms.

Not being a Brownie or Girl Scout, I did not think I could ask for one of these adorable dolls. Instead I sighed wistfully and was thankful that there was at least something interesting to look at while I waited.

In middle school I became a Girl Scout Cadet, for two years, but our troop (a small, rural troop) did not do uniforms/sashes/patches. Those cost money. Instead we saved up for a camping trip and a trip to DC. My favorite part of the camping trip was getting to it. A town local met me by the water in his two person outboard motor boat and took me and my camping gear across the river to the campsite. Fun!

I am happy that I finally have my own Fluffy. Now she needs a sister in the green Juniors uniform.
